Scotts Precision Manufacturing has unveiled the Terra-Siv, a novel pre-cleaner designed for potato harvesting and cleaning processes. The self-cleaning Terra-Siv is engineered to efficiently remove large volumes of loose soil and debris across a minimal distance. Its compatibility with second-generation Evolution Separators, either as a direct attachment or as an independent pre-cleaning unit, marks a significant advancement in agricultural technology.
Derek Scott, Managing Director at Scotts, highlighted the innovation behind Terra-Siv, aimed at aiding growers facing challenges with high soil contents in their harvests. "The Terra-Siv will turbocharge separators by removing high levels of loose soil and smaller debris. By eliminating this debris beforehand, the separator can operate more efficiently, removing larger particles and leaf matter," Scott explained. The device operates by supporting the crop on star tips, allowing soil to fall through while larger debris is captured. Adjustments in star shaft speed and height enhance debris removal without compromising the crop's integrity.
Key to the Terra-Siv's design is its focus on low maintenance and ease of adjustment, featuring direct drive electric motor/gearboxes and remote greasing. Operator adjustments are simplified through push buttons or turnbuckles, emphasizing user convenience and operational efficiency. The system comprises six direct-driven shafts, each contributing to the pre-cleaner's functionality, from the initial crop landing to the final soil removal. This structured approach ensures thorough cleaning while maintaining crop quality.
Scotts' commitment to innovation is evident in Terra-Siv's design, aiming to provide growers with a solution to efficiently handle soil-heavy crops while maintaining high operational standards.
