Jordan's agricultural sector has witnessed a notable increase in fruit and vegetable exports, reaching 522,000 tons by the end of October, a 17% rise compared to the previous year, and the highest in five years, as per the Ministry of Agriculture. The sector is on a path of recovery, with expectations for continued growth into 2024. The Ministry highlighted that exports are now at 99% of the total anticipated for 2023. Notably, date exports surged, particularly to the UK, which now represents 17% of Jordan's total date exports, reflecting a 190% increase in shipments. This growth is part of Jordan's strategy to penetrate premium markets by focusing on quality and regional differentiation.
Furthermore, the country has seen a significant uptick in sheep exports, which have soared by 141%, totaling 704,000 heads, marking a new milestone for livestock exports. Tomato exports have also expanded, entering new markets in Egypt and Yemen, supported by strategic initiatives from the Ministry. These developments underscore Jordan's efforts under the National Sustainable Agriculture Plan to enhance agricultural exports, improve post-harvest processes, and secure new export agreements. The recognition of Jordan's premium produce for its quality underscores the country's evolving brand in competitive global markets.
