Custard apple prices surge due to 30 percent production drop amid heavy rains

Current market dynamics have led to an increase in custard apple prices, attributed primarily to a 30% reduction in production due to heavy rainfall in July and August. A wholesale agent at Mahatma Fule Market reported to The Hitavada, "Lower production has resulted in prices rising by 10 percent compared to a year ago." Daily, the market sees an influx of 2,000 to 2,500 crates.

The price range for custard apples is between Rs 100 to Rs 800 ($1.21 to $9.68) per dozen, influenced by variety, size, and quality. The fruit is also sold in baskets, holding 12 to 100 pieces. Custard apples are categorized into hard (kaccha) and soft (pakka) varieties, with the latter commanding higher prices. Availability of the local variety is expected to continue until the end of November. The festive season typically boosts demand for custard apples. Supply sources include Saoner and other regions within a 50-kilometer radius, with additional contributions from Seoni Safara, Katol, Kuhi, Kamptee, Chhindwara, and occasionally from Amravati and Nashik.
