Divino brand

An average of 23 to 30 pallets of persimmons are shipped daily between Italy and Germany

The Gallicchio Frutta plant, the company behind the new 'Divino – Il kaki italiano', is currently operating at full capacity, as the company from Basilicata is currently focusing on three main product packages: the Divino customised cardboard pan (30x50x9 cm, single-layer alveolus, average weight 3.5 to 4.2 €/kg), the new branded 2 kg box (30x20x13 cm, large-scale distribution), and the 1 kg plastic tray.

Pallets leaving for the general markets

"Harvesting and marketing commenced in the first week of October," says Francesca Gallicchio. "In comparison to the initial launch, our outgoing volumes have increased by over 50%." At present, 23 to 30 pallets of persimmons are dispatched daily from Scanzano Jonico to wholesale markets and supermarkets in Italy. Additionally, we can confirm that supplies in Germany are also good. The region that has exceeded expectations this year is Apulia, where we are experiencing exceptionally high levels of demand. Additionally, we are witnessing a surge in demand in Calabria, Sicily, Latium, Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia Romagna and Tuscany."

The company has already sold approximately 400 tonnes of persimmons, but there are still another 2,000 tonnes to be harvested and marketed until the end of February. "This year has seen an increase in both the quantity and diversity of our inventory. Furthermore, our supplier network has been expanded, resulting in an increase in individual lots purchased. As a result, we are well-positioned to meet the Christmas period and guarantee consistent, increased supplies to customers without having to end the season earlier than planned. The Divino persimmon brand is a well-established and easily recognisable consumer product.

The flood caused significant damage to the Spanish orchards, resulting in extensive harm to both the fruit and the trees themselves. The repercussions of this event are now becoming evident in the Italian persimmon market. In the last few days, there has been a 15% surge in demand, accompanied by a notable rise in interest from new customers. It is estimated that this commercial trend may evolve further over the next two weeks, with all the current volumes stored in cellars being sold. It is worth noting that the Spanish market represents a significant consumer of this crop. As a result, local operators may decide to place a significant amount of their remaining stock directly into the domestic market.
