In 2022, the Americas produced 6,505,714 tons of avocados, accounting for 72% of global production, which amounted to 9,035,714 tons. Most of the world's avocado area is in the Americas, surpassing Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
Six of the world's top ten avocado-producing countries are located in the Americas. Mexico leads with 2,530,000 tons, followed by Colombia, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. Other countries with large production are Kenya, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, Israel, and Haiti.
Global avocado exports in 2023 amounted to 2,914,000 tons, i.e. 10.09% more than in the previous year. Mexico led exports with 1,221,000 tons, followed by Peru with 598,000 tons. Spain, Kenya, Colombia, Chile, Israel, South Africa, the Dominican Republic, and the United States are also among the main exporters.
The United States and the Netherlands are the largest importers, accounting for 50% of all imports. The United States mainly sources its avocados from Mexico, while the Netherlands is a transit country to other European countries.
