Week 44 Fruit Wholesale Market Report

Australian nectarines are on the market, Santina cherries have arrived

Chilean Santina cherries, including J-3J sizes, are now available. Prices vary based on brand and fruit condition upon arrival, with some cherries being slightly softer. Traders report that overall market sales have been underwhelming recently, with cherry prices dropping compared to last week. Sales of 2J cherries are doing relatively well, as they are priced more affordably.

Australian nectarines are also now available. At this early stage, the fruit size is smaller, while color and taste are similar to last year. To align with current consumer demand, the starting price for this season's first batch is about 10% lower than last year.

The U.S. apple market remains steady. According to traders, the quality of arrivals is good, but high prices have slowed sales. New Zealand apples are reaching the end of their season. Some brands have maintained previous prices, staying firm at over ¥500 per box, which is higher than U.S. apples.

In the avocado market, Chilean avocados remain stable, with small amounts of Peruvian avocados arriving and fewer Chinese avocados available. According to traders, imported avocados are popular in Guangzhou, while Chinese avocados sell more in Shanghai and nearby areas. Due to rapid ripening, domestic avocados are challenging to preserve in Guangzhou's high temperatures. Traders note that while domestic avocado sales initially started well this year, sales slowed as more product entered the market.

Yunnan blueberries

The blueberry market remains similar to last week. Peruvian blueberries average about ¥135 per box, with pure sweet varieties priced higher at around ¥155. Yunnan blueberries are priced similarly to imported pure sweet varieties.

A small quantity of young coconuts from Vietnam is available, though arrivals are not daily. Some traders noted that Vietnamese coconuts are priced lower than Thai coconuts, but the overall cost difference is minimal.

Yunnan sweet oranges are now available in larger quantities, often marketed as grown in the Ailao Mountains of Yunnan. Traders report that the oranges have good flavor and sweetness, but with more sellers and fewer buyers, prices have dropped compared to last week to stimulate sales.

Dandong strawberries are also on the market, with premium, bright-red packages priced around ¥110 per box (approximately 650 grams). Venus apples from Shandong are available as well, with pricing steady compared to previous periods.
