Bahia has retained its position at the forefront of Brazilian fruit agriculture, particularly in passion fruit cultivation, according to the Agribusiness Portal. The state produced 253.9 thousand tons of passion fruit in 2023, marking an 8.3% increase from the previous year. Chapada Diamantina, known for its biodiversity and eco-tourism, has become the leading region for passion fruit in Bahia. Livramento de Nossa Senhora, within Chapada, is recognized as the top producer nationally, with 44,395 tons despite a 5% decrease from the last harvest. Other municipalities like ItuaƧu and Barra da Estiva also play significant roles, each contributing approximately 30 thousand tons, thus bolstering the region's status as a key production area. The success of passion fruit cultivation in Bahia is attributed to the state's climatic conditions, soil diversity, water availability for irrigation, and the adoption of advanced agricultural practices and technologies.
