Turkey boosts global pomegranate exports, led by Iraq and Russia

Khayruddin Ojak, Chairman of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, detailed Turkey's export dynamics, noting Iraq's prominent role as a key importer of Turkish pomegranates for the period between January and October. Ojak underlined Turkey's significant standing in the global pomegranate market, both in terms of production and export. The country, he mentioned, produces around 700,000 tons annually, positioning it within the top five globally. Moreover, Turkey's pomegranate exports are notable, with figures reaching between 150,000 to 200,000 tons annually, ranking it among the top 10 exporting countries.

Throughout the mentioned timeframe, Turkey managed to distribute pomegranates to 61 countries. The Russian Federation topped the list of importers with purchases worth $21 million, closely followed by Iraq with imports totaling $20 million. Other significant importers included Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine, with imports valued at $14.5 million, $7.5 million, and $5.5 million, respectively. This diversification in export destinations underscores Turkey's strategic approach to bolstering its presence across various global markets, including Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
