Customs officials in Piraeus have intercepted 51 kilograms of cocaine hidden within a banana container. The narcotics, with an estimated value exceeding €2.3 million, were concealed in the cooling machinery of the shipment, originating from South America. The detection was facilitated by Max, a detection dog, leading to the discovery of the drugs packed into 50 separate packages. The operation involved the Independent Authority of Public Revenue (AADE), the Narcotics Subdivision of the Directorate for Countering Organized Crime, the Coast Guard, and the Financial Crimes Unit, under the guidance of the National Economy and Finance Ministry. Investigations are ongoing to identify the intended recipients and any associated criminal networks.
