Strawberries in good supply and will increase in volume as the weather gets warmer

The first strawberries of the season in South Australia were picked in the middle of October. Supplies are steady at the moment with the peak of supply expected from late November - early December.

"The current warm conditions are perfect for strawberries," said Penny Reidy from South Australian Produce Market Limited. "The growing conditions ahead of this season have been excellent to provide good strawberries, and plenty of them. Early season strawberries are large, sweet and juicy. Growers have reported smaller yields off early picks but with larger size and sweetness."

Strawberries are in good supply and will only increase in volume as the weather gets warmer. Some growers have reported smaller yields from first picks – but larger size. The coming weeks will be more indicative of the season volumes – but growers are confident.

In South Australia, strawberries are grown in the ground without any cover.

"Demand is currently strong from market customers. South Australians are parochial and know that we grow amazing produce here in the State."
