Roberto Latorre, Gloria Agro Foods:

With our own lime production in Peru, we aim to establish a foothold in Europe

At Gloria Agro Foods in Peru, the first limes are now being harvested and prepared for shipment to Europe. "Last year, we received a few containers as a trial, and it went very well. This year, we are launching a full season for the first time," says Roberto Latorre from the European sales office in Ridderkerk.

Although Brazilian limes dominate the European market, Peruvian limes are gaining traction, Roberto explains. "Peru already produces a significant quantity of limes, but most are exported to the United States. With our own 200-hectare plantation in Peru, we aim to establish a stronger presence in Europe as well."

"The limes we received last year were of excellent quality, so our expectations are high as we now have a steady supply for the season, which runs roughly from late November to mid-May. The first containers are expected to arrive in week 50," Roberto adds.

"Currently, the market is strong, with high demand and prices. Traditionally, January is a more challenging period due to an influx of Brazilian fruit on the market. Brazil is expected to start the season with relatively large volumes of smaller-sized limes, whereas we have a good supply of the more desirable sizes: 42, 48, and 54."
