Guillaume Liesch, Champ'pom

"We are increasing our production capacity for packaged potatoes this year"

This is major news for Champ'Pom, a company specializing in the packing and trading of potatoes. "This year, we are aiming to pack 8,000 tons of potatoes, so we are installing a second packing line," explains Guillaume Liesch, sales director at Champ'Pom. As a result, Champ'pom will go from 5,000 tons of packaged products for 35,000 tons of potatoes sold in total, to 8,000 tons and 45,000 tons overall.

A productive year, dynamic demand and average quality
"We are seeing a 15% increase in yield compared with N-1, with inferior quality in terms of washability (excess water in the crop). However, in terms of trade, the demand has been strong since August from all our European packaging and manufacturing clients. For the time being, this increase in production has been well absorbed, which bodes well for the future."

Guaranteeing a consistent purchase price for potatoes produced by the group
With small-scale packaging, Champ'Pom wants to secure part of its own production by increasing the volumes with high added value, in order to guarantee a satisfactory purchase price covering all costs even if the market price is lower. The company would like to develop this model with its partner growers, to offer take-back contracts for table potatoes, to be packaged directly at the site of Saint-Rémy-Sous-Broyes.

Providing technical support to partner growers
This expansion has been accompanied by a restructuring of the team, with new recruits in the purchasing and technical departments. "Jean and François-Paul have joined the Champ'Pom team to monitor all the plots and storage facilities. They will be sharing out the different production regions to guarantee sufficient volumes to supply the center and the trade. François-Paul will also be responsible for technical monitoring of the 300 hectares of potatoes under his own production, as well as contracts in Champagne, Beauce and Picardy. Jean will have a presence in the Seine-Maritime department and in Northern France.
