GoodnessMe®

A new generation of apples has arrived to respond to the future challenges

A scientific approach to evaluating a new "club" variety in all its details, unveiling its immense potential for growers, consumers, and the planet. Not just words, but measurable facts. This was the focus at Interpoma during the launch of a ground breaking apple variety, the result of over 20 years of dedicated research and development.

Originally bred by the world-renowned Plant & Food Research breeding program in New Zealand and later licensed by the rights owner, Prevar™, to the Belgian company Wouters Fruit, this new apple has more than one string to its bow.

It is genetically resistant to scab, suitable for organic cultivation, boasts a stunning bright red color, delivers a crisp bite, and excels in storage without requiring treatments. Its exceptional qualities—beneficial for the entire supply chain and, importantly, for the environment—earned it a fitting brand name: GoodnessMe®.

Kris Wouters (Wouters Fruit), Tony Martin (CEO di Prevar) e il ricercatore Richard Volz (Plant & Food Research).

The public presentation, so crowded that organizers had to provide a larger room, was expertly delivered by Kris Wouters, breeder Dr. Richard Volz (Plant & Food Research), and, with a surprise unveiling of the brand name, Tony Martin, Chief Executive of Prevar.

Kris highlighted GoodnessMe®'s high yields, resilience, and unique market position. "This variety sets a new standard for natural, resilient, and delicious apple cultivation. By embracing regenerative farming, we reduce pesticide use, enhance biodiversity, and support a healthier ecosystem, providing an apple that's better for growers, consumers, and the planet." Wouters Fruit holds the exclusive European license for GoodnessMe® and is now inviting expressions of interest from growers, who were among the first to taste this remarkable new variety.

Dr. Richard Volz emphasized that this is the first double-gene scab-resistant apple variety, as confirmed by high-throughput molecular markers and greenhouse tests. Additionally, the variety shows tolerance to mildew and European canker. During his presentation, Dr. Volz shared extensive technical data, including yield, weight, firmness during cold-air storage, sensory profile, and its "pedigree."

GoodnessMe® apples are perfectly suited to their growing environment and feature a natural skin bloom that protects against sunburn, alongside outstanding taste and visual appeal.

GoodnessMe® joins Prevar's portfolio of premium apples and pears licensed worldwide, including Rockit™, Joli®, Dazzle™, Sassy™, and PIQA® Pears.

European consumers can anticipate enjoying GoodnessMe® apples starting in 2026. With their naturally crisp texture and refreshing flavor, these apples are the ultimate healthy snack—staying crunchy longer and delivering quality in every bite. Simple, delicious, and better for you.

GoodnessMe®. Good for me. Good for you. Good for the planet.
Because a little goodness goes a long way.
