The start of the pomegranate season in India has been met with strong demand, says Manoj Barai, general manager for Indian fresh produce exporter MK Exports: "We've experienced a robust start to the pomegranate season. Early indications suggest a promising year, with strong demand from key markets such as Europe, the Middle East and the United States. Export volumes have shown a significant increase, of approximately 15-20% compared to the previous year. This surge in demand can be attributed to the increasing popularity of pomegranates as a healthy and versatile fruit."
Despite challenges with the weather, Barai emphasizes that their strategies have mitigated the impact of the climate. "While climate fluctuations can pose challenges to the pomegranate industry, M.K. Exports has implemented advanced agricultural techniques to mitigate our impact. These strategies have helped maintain a consistent and high-quality supply of pomegranates. Demand for pomegranates remains strong and is projected to continue growing. Our primary export markets include Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, and Oman. These regions have demonstrated a consistent and growing demand our pomegranates."
According to Barai, investments have contributed to better efficiency for the pomegranates: "We have observed a good balance of sizes this season, meeting the diverse needs of different markets. While there might be slight variations, overall, the sizes are comparable to previous years. We've invested in optimizing our supply chain management and implementing advanced agricultural techniques. These investments have enhanced efficiency, reduced costs, and improved the quality of our pomegranates, giving us a competitive edge in the global market."
"We anticipate a strong performance for the remainder of the pomegranate season. However, we remain vigilant about potential challenges, such as climate fluctuations and geopolitical tensions that could impact global trade. By leveraging its strong market presence, efficient supply chain, and high-quality products, we're confident in our ability to navigate these challenges and capitalize on the growing demand for pomegranates," Barai concludes.
