In light of a diminished harvest within the Russian Federation due to May frosts damaging orchards, China has escalated its exports of apples and pears to Russia. Data from the State Customs Administration indicates that in October, the value of these fruit shipments from China to Russia reached $6.2 million, an increase from $3.9 million in the previous year. Furthermore, October saw a $1 million rise in exports compared to September of the same year.
Over the first ten months of the current year, China's exports of apples and pears to Russia amounted to $47.3 million, marking a 1.8-fold increase over the same period last year, which stood at $26.1 million. This surge in exports comes as the Russian Ministry of Agriculture revised its apple harvest forecast for the year downwards to 1.5 million tons from an initial estimate of 1.8 million tons, following frost damage. However, the forecast was later adjusted to 1.6 million tons due to better performance in southern regions and the North Caucasus, ultimately reaching a harvest of 1.7 million tons for 2023.
The Ministry of Agriculture anticipates an increase in apple production, targeting nearly 2 million tons by 2025 and 2.7 million tons by 2030.
