Solarbox Africa raises $1M to advance solar-powered mobility in Senegal

Solarbox Africa, a provider of e-mobility solutions in Senegal, has completed a $1 million Pre-Seed funding round. The investment was led by the Digital Energy Facility, in collaboration with Agence Française de Développement, IetP, and Gaia Impact Fund, alongside Launch Africa, JLL Foundation, and Teranga Capital. This financial injection will support Solarbox's efforts to cater to the increasing demand for clean mobility solutions in Senegal and its adjacent markets.

Originating from Wuri Ventures, Solarbox specializes in the creation and assembly of custom light electric vehicles, including 2 and 3-wheelers, tailored for corporate use. The company's offerings encompass solar charging, financing, and fleet management solutions. It has forged strategic alliances with notable entities such as Orange Energies, FedEx, and Paps Logistics, underlining its commitment to promoting sustainable mobility across various sectors.

By addressing the challenge of Senegal's substantial petroleum imports, which amount to $2 billion annually, with its solar-powered vehicles, Solarbox not only aims at financial savings for its users but also a considerable reduction in carbon emissions. The initiative taps into Senegal's significant solar energy potential, which stands among the highest globally, to diminish the reliance on fossil fuels and foster a cleaner environment.
