Wholesale fruit and vegetable prices - week 47

Apples rise 2% while conference pears drop 5% in weekly price comparison

The latest analysis of wholesale prices for home-grown fruits and vegetables in the UK highlights several shifts in the market, comparing the current week's average to the previous week's figures. Apples, a staple in most households, showed minor price fluctuations. The Gala variety saw a slight increase in its average price, rising by 2% from £1.21 to £1.23 per kilogram. Meanwhile, other late-season apple varieties remained stable, with no price changes recorded.

Pears presented a mixed picture. Conference pears experienced a price decline, dropping by 5% from £1.17 to £1.11 per kilogram. This decrease reflects shifting market conditions, possibly influenced by seasonal availability or changing demand patterns. Conversely, varieties such as Doyenne du Comice and other types of pears maintained steady prices, signaling stability in certain segments of the pear market.

The vegetable market displayed a notable steadiness, with minimal changes across most categories. Stable prices often suggest balanced supply and demand dynamics, especially during this period of the year. However, consistent monitoring remains essential as environmental and logistical factors can cause abrupt changes in pricing trends.
