Peruvian exports to the EU surge 687%, driven by agribusiness and mining

Exports from Peru to the European Union (EU) member countries from January to October reached a total of US$ 6, marking a 687% increase over the same timeframe in the previous year, which saw US$ 17.8 in exports, as reported by the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

The ADEX Data Trade Intelligence System highlighted that agribusiness and mining were the primary sectors driving these exports, with figures standing at US$ 2 and US$ 460 respectively. Key products included avocados, cranberries, cocoa beans, fresh grapes, mangoes, and notably, copper from the mining sector.

Furthermore, several other sectors contributed to the export figures, including oil and natural gas (US$ 497 million 746 thousand), traditional agriculture (US$ 443 million 755 thousand), fishing for direct human consumption (US$ 270 million 546 thousand), chemicals (US$ 228 million 345 thousand), traditional fishing (US$ 170 million 374 thousand), and iron and steel (US$ 151 million 527 thousand), among others.

Within this period, the Netherlands emerged as the most significant European market for Peruvian exports, with a total of US$ 1,958 million 970 thousand, reflecting a 35.4% growth. The main products in the Netherlands included avocados, cranberries, liquefied natural gas, fresh grapes, and cocoa beans. Spain followed, with exports amounting to US$ 1,652 million 709 thousand, a 9.5% increase from the previous year, including copper, avocados, zinc, frozen squid, and cocoa beans.

In efforts to foster cooperation, commercial development, investments, and sustainability, ADEX president Julio Pérez Alván and the EU ambassador to Peru, Jonathan Hatwell, convened at the export association's headquarters.
