Belarus introduces potato export licensing to ensure domestic supply stability

The Belarusian government has initiated a three-month licensing requirement for the export of potatoes. This decision, signed by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, aims to ensure the domestic availability of agricultural products during off-season periods. Exporters of potatoes, irrespective of their origin, are now mandated to obtain one-time licenses. These licenses will be issued by the Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry, subject to the endorsement of the Agriculture and Food Ministry, regional administrations, and the Minsk City Executive Committee.

Licensing decisions will be contingent on Belarus's ability to meet domestic demand and the country's current need for potatoes. The assessment will determine the availability of surplus supplies that can be allocated for export without impacting local requirements.
