Ad Pollux, Eurofresh:

"Closure of Düsseldorf wholesale market set to boost business in Venlo"

2024 was Ad Pollux's second year at the helm of cash-and-carry wholesaler Eurofresh at Fresh Park Venlo. The managing director reflects on a successful year for the company, which celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier in the year. "I am delighted with the past year. With some new additions to the team, I was able to shape the business even more to my liking. Next year should be even better."

According to Pollux, the closure of the wholesale market in Düsseldorf may bring additional growth opportunities for Fresh Park Venlo. "We already noticed this last year, but I believe it will become even more significant. Customers in our segment, such as farm shops that purchase 10-15 packages of goods daily, know where to find Venlo. I also expect the customer base from the Lower Rhine region to grow further. We are a wholesaler where even small purchases—spending just fifty euros at the till—are welcome. We take pride in that. All those small customers together make a big one."

Christmas sales remain a significant focus for Eurofresh's customers, Pollux notes. "Specialty items like mushrooms and herbs are particularly in demand, but everyday products for home, garden, and kitchen use are also performing well. We're already seeing a slight uptick in sales today, and this will only increase as the week progresses."

While weather extremes posed challenges to product availability this year, Pollux says Eurofresh managed well, thanks to its trusted suppliers. "We primarily source imported fruit from fellow Dutch companies, but we also have direct supply lines to Spain, Portugal, and Italy. Our loyal and reliable suppliers, many of whom we've worked with for years, have played a key role in our success."
