The Deutsche Fruchthandelsverband e.V. (DFHV, en: German Fruit Trade Association) celebrates its 25th anniversary on 1 January 2025. On 1 January 2000, the Zentralverband des Deutschen Früchte-Import und -Großhandels e.V. (en: Central Association of German Fruit Importers and Wholesalers, founded in 1948) and the Verband des Hanseatischen Früchte-Import und -Großhandels e.V. (en: Association of Hanseatic Fruit Importers and Wholesalers, founded in 1947) merged to form the DFHV.
According to DFHV managing director Dr Andreas Brügger, the merger made it possible to have a unified representation of interests in the fruit industry. 'Until then, there were not just one, but several associations in the fruit industry. And each had their own managing directors, chairmen or presidents, and sometimes even their own offices. This created many opportunities for representing different opinions.'

Joint fight at national and European level
Today, all those involved are well aware that the fruit trade is an industry with common interests – regardless of the fact that the member companies are, of course, in competition with each other. 'We are fighting together at national and European level for the best possible framework conditions for our industry – even though this is sometimes very challenging.'
