New Zealand kiwifruit exports reach record $3.5 billion in 2024

According to Stats NZ, the 2024 season saw kiwifruit exports from New Zealand valued at $3.5 billion, marking a $1 billion increase (44 percent) from the 2023 season. The kiwifruit harvesting season extends from March to November, with gold kiwifruit typically commanding a higher unit price than their green counterparts. Viki Ward, international accounts spokesperson, highlighted that the export value surge was primarily volume-driven, amidst stable kiwifruit prices.

Ward remarked, "This is a great recovery for the industry after last year's weather events and a return to historic highs." Kiwifruit constituted 73 percent ($3,456 million) of New Zealand's fruit exports for the year ending November 2024, with apples at 21 percent ($979 million). The data also showed a significant rise in apple and avocado exports, increasing by $118 million and $33 million respectively, with the majority of avocado exports destined for Australia. The total value of fruit exports for the year ending November 2024 was reported at $4.7 billion.
