Focused on helping farmers improve productivity in novel ways, Gadot Agro Ltd. is setting a new standard for avocado yield management by introducing the application of Unik™. "The results have been very good in this highly sought-after superfood crop," says Alon Tsur, an Agronomist at Gadot Agro.

Now avocado cultivation can extend into new geographical areas
Used throughout the growing cycle and across seasons, Unik helps control the timing and intensity of vegetative flushes. Growers can use this mechanism to limit tree height and promote denser foliage, keeping the tree healthier and obtaining higher, better yields even under harsher conditions.
Straight from the orchard
Tsur, shares his experience, "As one who was raised among avocado orchards, and has worked in them for 24 years as an agronomist, I've spent a major part of my life observing these plants across the country's different regions. Over the years, I've conducted numerous experiments comparing treated and untreated avocado trees, and witnessed the positive impact of UnikM on the yields."
Growth regulators have been in use since the 1980s in various crops. Applying them at the correct stages and under detailed protocols balances the plant's resource distribution among its organs.
"Wide use of Unik delivers great results in Hass avocados, the variety that responds the most to these treatments, which are now common practice. Application on Hass also increases fruit size."Further research with these treatments showed, as is evident in the Pinkerton and Galil varieties, that they may also improve fruit shape and appearance, to make it more rounded and with a shorter neck (Pinkerton avocado shown in image above).
"Unik is a plant growth regulator that inhibits gibberellic acid endogenic biosynthesis, thereby controlling plant growth and improving biomass levels and fruit size. This ability to manage these parameters allows the avocado growers I work with to optimize tree size, channel energy allocation towards fruit production, and ultimately enhance crops," states Tsur.
A unique Unik protocol for each variety
Based on many years of research and expert collaboration with growers around the world, Gadot Agro has developed protocols for the use of Unik specifically in avocados. Detailed protocols for each variety—Hass, Pinkerton, Fuerte, and Ettinger—show that Unik, applied in different doses, at certain phenological stages, and in combination with other products (depending on environmental and geographic conditions), "delivers significantly better results including larger fruit size, superior fruit shape, and higher consistency." Unik protocols can also be further adjusted to fit local cultivation practices and special constraints.
