Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, and Lithuania have banned the import of Albanian citrus fruits after tests revealed excessive levels of pesticides in the produce. The mandarins were found to contain chlorpyrifos and phosmet, chemicals whose consumption poses significant side effects to the human body.
This situation highlights a troubling reality: many people believe they are eating healthy by consuming fruits and vegetables, while in fact, they may be exposing themselves to serious health risks.
Kosovo's Food and Veterinary Agency has also stepped in, closely monitoring the situation after the European Food Safety System issued alerts regarding shipments of mandarins from Albania. The agency has increased inspection measures, collecting samples from shipments to test for pesticide residues exceeding permissible levels.
Mandarin shipments are currently halted at border checkpoints pending laboratory analysis. Although Kosovo has not been directly included in the European alert, its authorities have taken proactive measures to address any potential concerns.
