Agrovision acquires Chile's ZurGroup to expand its cherry business

"This acquisition is increasing our capacity to offer a constant supply all year round"

The global superfruit market, known for its antioxidant properties, continues to evolve through strategic moves that strengthen the connection between South American producers and high-demand markets like China. The recent acquisition of ZurGroup, a leading company in cherry production in Chile, marks a significant step in this dynamic. According to Juan Pablo Spoerer, Director of Agrovision, "This collaboration not only allows us to tap into ZurGroup's regional expertise but also strengthens Agrovision's ability to connect South American-grown superfruits with the high-demand Chinese market".

Chile, recognized as one of the world's top cherry-producing regions, offers ideal conditions for growing premium cherries with exceptional flavour and crunch. "Cherries represent a high-growth category with significant demand in our key markets. They also fit perfectly alongside our other operations, helping us work toward a year-round supply strategy, much like we've done with blueberries," Spoerer emphasized.

With this acquisition, Agrovision plans to introduce proprietary premium cherry varieties specifically developed to maximize flavor, crunch, and freshness. "Our focus in Chile is to introduce proprietary premium cherry varieties tailored to meet the growing demand in high-value markets like China. Additionally, we bring Agrovision's proven model of vertically integrated operations, advanced technology, and a strong commitment to sustainable farming practices to the Chilean cherry and blueberry market," explained Spoerer

In line with its commitment to sustainability, Agrovision will integrate regenerative farming practices into the acquired operations, focusing on soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity. "With access to premium blueberry varietals in Chile and new lands for cherry cultivation, we can scale our production to meet rising demand while maintaining our commitment to sustainable agricultural practices," added Spoerer.

"This expansion is an exciting step in our mission to inspire enjoyable and nutritious snacking," Spoerer concluded. "It also establishes a foundation for creating a 52-week cherry supply strategy, complementing Agrovision's existing superfruit operations and meeting the expectations of high-value markets."
