In 2024, Jordan experienced an upswing in its agricultural export value, reaching approximately $1.8 billion (JD1.276 billion) by the end of October, as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra. This represents a $487 million (JD346 million) or 37.16% increase over the previous year, eclipsing the total agricultural export value of 2023, which was around $1.55 billion (JD1.1 billion).
The Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, identified livestock and fruit exports as the primary contributors to this growth. Livestock exports surged by 38%, moving from $160.6 million (JD114 million) to $221 million (JD157 million), while fruit exports soared by 80%, from $205.4 million (JD146 million) to $370.2 million (JD263 million). Additionally, vegetable exports witnessed a 15% increase, escalating from $215.4 million (JD153 million) to $246.5 million (JD175 million).
Hneifat highlighted the export of live sheep, which escalated to 754,000 head, a 48% increase from the previous year. The volume of vegetable and fruit exports also rose to 586,700 tons, a 12% upswing from the cumulative exports by the end of December 2023. Specifically, vegetable exports amounted to 405,900 tons, an 8% increase, and fruit exports reached 180,800 tons, up by 20%.
Furthermore, the cumulative exports of dates ascended to 16,280 tons, a 7% increase from 2023, and the export volume of table eggs climbed to 94 million eggs, marking an 8% rise.
