With the endive season in full swing, Alban Descamps of En'Diva describes an 'active' market at the start of 2025. "Endive consumption is often good at this time of year. It is driven by a desire to eat healthy after the excesses associated with the end-of-year festivities. We also have a number of promotional campaigns currently run by retail chains."
Another positive point is that, in the face of the dynamic demand, supply is more plentiful than in the last two years. "Production is higher than in previous years, and we are able to sell what we have. We meet the demand, which allows us to put endives center stage." Production is higher, thanks to favorable weather. "This is a good season in terms of root quantities, so the harvest has been better this year. Productivity is closer to normal for this time of year."
As far as prices are concerned, the market is said to be "balanced", although endives could be better valued. "Of course, we would like better prices, because endive production is very expensive. Bearing these constraints in mind, the costs of producing endives have to be met. If we want to keep the sector attractive for future generations, we need to have a product that is properly valued.
