The broccoli and cauliflower season is underway in southeastern Spain with a still limited supply, mostly due to the low temperatures. This situation is expected to continue until the end of this month and prices are expected to remain at reasonable levels.
"We have had a lower production of brassicas for the last two or three weeks due to the influence of the cold," says Pedro M. García Belmonte, Area Manager of Agrícola Santa Eulalia, located in Totana, Murcia, which specializes mainly in the production and marketing of broccoli.
"However, since the end of the Christmas promotions throughout Europe, the demand has not been very high. For this reason, we would say that the supply is more or less in line with current demand," he says.
According to García Belmonte, "broccoli prices are stable, at reasonable levels, and are expected to remain so in the coming weeks."
It is worth recalling that broccoli prices were low during the month of November due to low demand, as well as quality problems due to excess rainfall and a lack of interest from the frozen industry.
