"There is a very strong demand for 'detox' vegetables"

The end of 2024 was very busy for the Biofrais shops in the Haute-Savoie and Ain departments, which are currently offering a wide range of seasonal organic fruits and vegetables. "During the festive season, the demand was particularly strong for all citrus fruits, with obviously a higher than usual demand for exotic fruits, also sold in the form of fruit baskets," explains Jessica Cornely, fruit and vegetable sector manager at Biofrais.

With a desire to offer organic products grown as locally as possible, the lychees and Victoria pineapples come from Reunion Island, the passion fruit from Spain, and the pineapples from the Azores in Portugal. "In addition to these exotic products, we naturally offer a wide range of citrus fruit, including Clemenvilla mandarins, oranges of several varieties (Tarocco, Moro, leaf), and Syracuse lemons, which come directly from a producer in Sicily, as do our clementines, which come directly from a producer in Corsica, even though the end of the season is approaching. As for the red pomelos, they also come from Corsica."

As for vegetables, the festive season was also favourable for a number of products. "Cardoons, a regional vegetable, sold very well. So did mini vegetables (mini cauliflower, mini leeks), coloured carrots, all the salads, fresh herbs, mesclun, lamb's lettuce, and baby spinach. Now that the festive season is over, we are seeing strong demand for the range of 'detox' vegetables, such as celery, leeks, carrots, endive, fennel, and the whole range of cabbages (kale, cauliflower, broccoli, kale) and apples."

"It is thanks to our fruit and vegetable buyer Olivier Rahon, who does a remarkable job on the purchasing side, that we are able to offer such a wide and high-quality range of organic and fresh fruit and vegetables," explains Jessica Cornely.
