While it may seem difficult to introduce innovations to the potato sector, Matteo Freddi of "Freddi 1926 srl" is betting on something new at the Marca trade fair (Bologna, 15-16 January 2025). "We have focused our attention on some low-calorie varieties that are perfect to meet the most modern dietary requirements. Tubers have about 25% fewer calories than standard potatoes, as proven by laboratory analyses."
"Fit Pat, the low-carb potato is perfectly positioned in the large-scale retail trade and targets a young, diet-conscious clientele. Our project does not include just one variety, but several ones to offer the best of European agricultural production all year round."
Freddi returns to the Marca fair after a few years. "We will have our own stand in order to showcase our latest innovations and promote our brand. We specialize in potatoes and onions and our organization enables us to meet the needs of all our customers."
The company has also made substantial changes as of 1st January: the new name is "Freddi 1926 srl" and the two brothers, Andrea and Matteo, are at the helm. "We will continue to respect our history, which is almost 100 years long, and treasure tradition, but we will also be bringing a lot of innovation."
On the market front, Matteo Freddi concludes by saying that "the period leading up to Christmas and all the holidays were characterized by good sales. We were pleased with the volumes of potatoes and onions sold. Only the volumes of Borettane onions were not very high. But, for everything else, we cannot complain."
