Last year, Greek exports of fresh fruit and vegetables were reported to have reached new heights. Incofruit Hellas, the Association of Greek Export and Consignment Enterprises for Fruit, Vegetables & Juices, has provided estimates indicating an 8.2% increase from the previous year, achieving a value of 1.86 billion euros. Concurrently, imports saw a significant uptick of 13.6%, based on official data for the first 11 months of 2024 and provisional figures for December.
The volume of fruit and vegetable exports also experienced growth, with an approximate 1.7% increase, surpassing 1.78 million tons. This data, derived from official records from January to November and provisional statistics for December, underscore the sector's expansion. The European Union remains the primary market for these exports, absorbing 1.24 million tons worth €1.26 billion in the first 11 months of 2024. This accounts for 78.34% of the export volume and 76.92% of the value during this period, totaling €1.64 billion.
Romania has emerged as the leading importer of Greek fresh produce, with 296.560 tons valued at €222.25 million and an average unit price of €0.75/kilo. Bulgaria ranks second, importing 248,200 tons with a total value of €132.21 million and an average unit price of €0.53/kilo, as reported by the association.
