Shanxi Province in North China has achieved a milestone in fruit exports, reaching 78 countries and regions, including key markets like the United States, Australia, and Russia. Taiyuan Customs highlighted the export of 73 types of fruit, marking a significant achievement for the region. In 2024, the province reported a 9.3 percent increase in fresh fruit exports, totaling 167,500 metric tons. Notably, this year saw the inaugural shipments of fresh apricots to Russia and the United Arab Emirates, winter jujubes to Bahrain, and apples to Somalia.
The period leading up to the Chinese Spring Festival has witnessed a surge in fruit exports. In a bid to streamline the customs clearance process, Taiyuan Customs has implemented a new inspection model in partnership with Yunnan Customs, facilitating fruit exports to Thailand. This initiative has reduced clearance times by 60 percent and propelled a 468 percent increase in fruit exports to Thailand. Fan Guoqiang, a fruit and vegetable company executive in Yongji, Shanxi, stated, "With customs support, fruit can now reach the Thai market in just six days via land shipment, compared to 13 days by sea, making it much fresher."
Yuncheng City, situated in the southwest of Shanxi Province, stands as a prominent fruit-producing area. Boasting 164,700 hectares of fruit plantations and an annual output of 6 million metric tons, the city benefits from fertile loess soil and an optimal latitude. The "Yuncheng Apple" has established a significant brand value, assessed at 956 million USD in a recent report by the Center for China Agriculture Brand.
