Brazil has cemented its position as a leading figure in the global fresh fruit market, with exports topping 1 million tons and generating revenues exceeding $1.287 billion in 2024. This marks a 3% increase in revenue, despite a slight 0.85% decrease in export volume compared to the previous year.
The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain, and the United States have emerged as key export destinations, underscoring their strategic significance to Brazil's fruit industry. Mangoes have been the standout performer, with exports surpassing 258,000 tons and generating more than $348 million in revenue, indicating a 12.14% growth in value from the previous year. Melons have also seen growth, showcasing the rising global demand for tropical Brazilian fruits. Conversely, grapes, a traditional export staple, witnessed a decline in both volume and value due to adverse weather conditions and logistical challenges.
Looking ahead to 2025, the sector aims to maintain its growth by tapping into new markets and bolstering existing ones. Notable achievements include grape exports to China and avocado exports to Chile, pointing to potential market expansions. However, these advancements underscore the necessity for ongoing improvements in quality, logistics, and trade negotiations.
Abrafrutas plans to ramp up investments in innovation and sustainability for 2025, focusing on initiatives that align with ESG practices. The goal is to sustain growth in traditional markets like Europe and the United States while expanding into emerging markets in Asia and Africa. "Brazilian fruit farming is experiencing a moment of expansion, and the growth in exports in 2024 reflects the hard work of our producers and Brazil's ability to meet international standards. We are confident that 2025 will bring new opportunities and significant advances for the sector," stated the president of Abrafrutas.
As Abrafrutas celebrates its tenth anniversary, the association remains dedicated to representing Brazilian producers and exporters, aiming to solidify Brazil's status as a global leader in the fruit industry.
