The agricultural producer price index in Jordan rose by 9.9% in 2024, reaching 109.4 points compared to 99.5 points in 2023, as reported by the Department of Statistics (DoS). This change was largely influenced by increased prices of key crops, such as potatoes, zucchini, and beans, which together hold a relative importance of 61%, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Conversely, the index noted a decrease in the prices of crops like colored sweet peppers, bananas, and tomatoes, which represent the relative importance of 39%.
On a monthly scale, December saw a 24.9% rise in the index, reaching 108.3 points from 86.7 points in December 2023. This monthly increase was driven by higher prices for crops including spinach, clementine, and green sweet peppers.
However, prices for cucumbers, mushrooms, and grapefruit declined, impacting crops with a 35% relative importance.
Despite the annual and December-to-December increases, the index experienced an 11.4% drop in December 2024 compared to November 2024, decreasing from 122.1 points to 108.3 points. This decline was due to lower prices of green beans, radishes, and potatoes, which accounted for 61.8% of the relative importance of the affected crops.
Meanwhile, prices for white cabbage, tomatoes, and bananas rose, with a relative importance of 38.2%.
