New logistics hub in Yvelines to cut transport emissions and optimize energy use

Lidl France has opened its largest (26th) logistics platform in France in the Yvelines department, in the town of Ablis. Inaugurated on January 24th after 3 years of construction work, the new 87,000 m² facilities will accommodate 300 employees and "reduce the average distance traveled by trucks to supermarkets, saving 1.5 million km of road transport per year, or 1,320 tons of CO2 per year."

The site includes 44,600 m² of dry goods storage and 22,500 m² of refrigeration units for fresh produce (including fruit and vegetables), 12,400 m² of solar panels installed on the roof (6,507 photovoltaic panels), producing the equivalent of the annual consumption of 489 households, and a Building Management System (BMS) to optimize energy consumption (100% of the heating power comes from the recovery of heat produced by the refrigeration systems), 67,700 m² of landscaped natural areas, with 264 trees planted and an intelligent lighting system to reduce energy consumption. Lighting is adjusted according to the presence of vehicles, trolleys, and logistics operators in the aisles.
