Salah Eddine Belkadi, commercial director of Unique Packing

"We are the first Moroccan company to obtain LEAF certification"

"We are delighted to announce that Unique Packing, a Moroccan producer of various fruits and vegetables, is the first Moroccan company to obtain the Linking Environment And Farming certification, which adds to our portfolio of certifications that reflect our commitment to quality production that respects people and the environment," Salah Eddine Belkadi, commercial director of the company, shares.

According to Belkadi, LEAF is a standard that promotes sustainable farming practices, encouraging growers to adopt environmentally responsible methods that enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and reduce resource use. He adds, "This certification is not mandatory for export, but we opted to obtain it to strengthen our position, especially in the UK market, where LEAF is more present than in Europe.

The grower adds, "The certificate covers our 80-ha farm based in Moulay Bousselhem, which is devoted entirely to avocado production, and puts us on a higher ground to supply supermarkets in the United Kingdom."

According to Belkadi, the British market is currently more attractive to Moroccan avocado exporters than European markets. He explains, "Average prices slightly higher than any other European market. At Unique Packing, 25% of our production is destined for the UK, and the new certification will increase this share even further. The UK market prefers medium avocado sizes, especially 20, 22, and 24, of the Hass variety"

"The constant growth in volumes of avocados from Mediterranean origins, including Morocco, will eventually lead to saturation of the European market. we are therefore expanding our certifications to give us access to new markets in Asia and the United States," Belkadi adds.

"We will be present at Fruit Logistica in Berlin as visitors and will be delighted to share our product portfolio and accomplishments," he concludes.
