Heidesand eG is investing around 30 million euros in the construction of a modern packaging plant for table potatoes. After the completion of the first phase of construction over the next year, a hall of around 10,000 square meters will be available, in which the potato business is to be relocated from its previous location in the center of Delmsen. The work has progressed well since the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony five months ago. "We are on schedule," Klaus-Dieter Masselink, managing director of Heidesand, and Lutz Büttner from BSB-Bau-Systems-GmbH in Rotenburg confirmed to the Böhme Zeitung.
Heidesand is a Raiffeisen goods cooperative with its headquarters in Scheeßel and more than 1,000 members in the districts of Rotenburg, Heidekreis, Verden, and the Hanseatic City of Bremen. Around 200 employees plus apprentices work there. The company's potato business is concentrated at the premises of the former Raiffeisen cooperative in Neuenkirchen, which it took over at the beginning of the 2000s. According to managing director Masselink, the company markets between 70,000 and 80,000 tons annually – mostly through the Neuenkirchen site.
