“Importers should wait until mid-February for high-quality Lane Late oranges”

The harvest of Greek Navelina oranges and Nova mandarins ended on February 25 with fruits of small caliber. During the last phase of their season, the grower price for Navelinas loaded on trucks stood at €0,30/kg, while for Novas, prices stood at €0,40/kg. Αs for the coming days, it seems that they will be marked by a certain lack of Greek orange supplies until mid-February.

Citrus orchards of Orange Plus

Orange Plus, headquartered in Ilia, cultivates 20 hectares of citrus dedicated to Navelinas, New Hall, Lane Late, Clementines, and Novas. As Mr. Yorgos Kolotouros, owner of the company, says: "Merlin oranges are currently available, but there are few in Ilia, and this variety tends to be of small caliber. For this reason, some growers, even before the end of the Navelina season, started harvesting Lane Late. I don't know where these oranges are being destined, but it's certain that their quality is not good. Proper quality Lane Late oranges will not be available until February 15."

"The growing conditions for Lane Late have been favorable so far, and we forecast a good crop, both in terms of quantity and quality. For our part, we are committed to this variety and expect a strong supply of Lane Late. We refuse to compromise on the quality offered to our clients. Therefore, we prefer to wait until February 15 to harvest, rather than supply oranges with low brix levels and poor taste," the Greek exporter emphasizes.

Mr. Kolotouros is satisfied with the season so far. "We are pleased with how the season has progressed, as our customers are happy with our deliveries. Although our company has been active in citrus growing since 1990, we only entered the packing and exporting sector in 2020. This makes us extremely focused on the quality of our products. We want to familiarize ourselves with the market and allow potential new customers to get to know us. We already have strong collaborations and are receiving calls from new companies. We can offer them very competitive prices."
