The first cabbage harvest has begun in Turkestan, Kazakhstan

Farmers in Keles, Turkestan Region, have started harvesting the first batch of cabbage, planted last fall. The vegetables have ripened and are now being shipped to major cities across the country, according to the regional administration's press service.

For example, Sheraly Tazhibaev, a resident of Zholbassy village in the Birtilek rural district, planted cabbage on two hectares and is currently harvesting 38 tons. He plans to collect another 100 tons in February.

"This winter, there was little snow and no severe frost. Seedlings planted under light cover took root quickly. Each cabbage head weighs up to four kilograms. If we plant early, we can begin a second crop in April or May. The earlier we start selling, the higher the price," Tazhibaev explained.

Keles farmers, who work year-round, are now planting cabbage again. Local farms have cultivated about 1,000 hectares, taking advantage of Kazakhstan's climate to harvest up to three times per season—benefiting both the agricultural sector and farmers.

Last year, 2,400 hectares of cabbage were planted in Keles, yielding 35,000 tons.
