Vitafresh is looking forward to this season's first arrivals of South African butternut squash. "We will have butternut squash arriving in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia this season. This is now possible due to increasing our exports out of South Africa and also opening more import markets for the company," said Daniel Badger, Managing Director at Vitafresh.
"It will be a short season out of South Africa, as growers planted 30% less butternut this year due to flooding last year. We have taken on a few new growers so we should still have lots of volume for export. We expect to export 100 containers in total this season."
The weather in South Africa has been good so far this year, the rains have been kind according to Daniel.
"The quality is looking very good due to the good weather conditions. We will be shipping the butternut in our bright pink boxes under the Vitafresh brand. We hope to continue exporting until June."
