The Russian market has observed a 2% increase in banana prices for the week of February 18 to 24, as reported by Rosstat. This marks an acceleration in the growth rate, which was previously at 0.6%. Additionally, overall fruit and vegetable prices in Russia rose by 1% during the same period, with the growth rate previously recorded at 0.7%.
Potatoes have shown the most pronounced price increase, rising by 3.1%, compared to 2.1% the prior week. Tomatoes experienced a price increase of 1.9%, up from 1.4%. Cabbage prices rose by 1.5%, whereas carrots saw a 0.9% increase. Apples increased by 0.8% after a previous decline of 0.1%. Onions and beets recorded a 0.6% increase, contrasting with prior changes of a 0.3% decrease and a 0.2% increase, respectively. Conversely, cucumber prices decreased by 1.4%, following a previous increase of 0.4%.
From the beginning of the year, potatoes have shown a 10.8% price increase, with cucumbers rising by 10.4%, cabbage by 8.3%, apples by 5.4%, onions by 5.3%, bananas and tomatoes by 4.9%, beets by 4.1%, and carrots by 2.9%. In 2024, the overall price increase for fruit and vegetable products in the Russian Federation reached 22.1%.
