Officials in Turkey have addressed concerns regarding potential frost and snow damage affecting hazelnut orchards along the Black Sea coast. In February, regions such as Ordu and Trabzon experienced below-average temperatures and snow. Some industry players expressed concerns over potential crop damage, noting that warmer weather in January had accelerated crop development. However, as temperatures increased in March, Turkish sources indicated that damage from the winter conditions was unlikely.
The Expana Benchmark Prices for Turkish 11/13 hazelnuts have remained relatively stable, decreasing by 1% over the four weeks leading up to March 5, to $850 per 100kg.
On the export front, Turkey shipped approximately 187,000 tons of hazelnuts between September 1, 2024, and February 28, 2025. This represents a 12% increase year-over-year, or an additional 20,000 tons, according to data from the Black Sea Exporters' Associations, reflecting steady demand from key consumer markets.
Earlier in the year, the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) released around 20,000 tons of hazelnuts for sale, offering the 2024/25 Levant quality crop at TRY 145 per kg, approximately $5.40 per kg. Last August, at the start of the harvest, the TMO purchased Levant quality hazelnuts from farmers at TRY 130 per kg or about $4.85 per kg.
