Léon van der Geer, Sigfrido Fruit:

"Malaga floods limit avocado harvest but remain very localized"

The floods in Malaga are dominating the news. But as always, the situation is very local. "The floods are very local here. We here in Vélez-Malaga, apart from a single village, don't really have any major problems. It is true, though, that we were quite limited until yesterday in harvesting avocados, mainly Hass and Lamb Hass," says Léon van der Geer, who works in the commercial department of Sigfrido Fruit.

"We expect a few more days of rain this coming weekend, after which we expect plenty of sunshine again. In the coming weeks, we will concentrate on the last 3–4 weeks of Spanish Lamb Hass, in addition to the weekly arrivals of Peru Hass and Maluma Hass," Léon concludes. He sent the photo below of the Río Seco (dry river), which is actually always completely dry—except now.
