Tien Giang begins mango exports to US with first shipment

The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang marked the inaugural export of green-skinned "tuong" mangoes to the US. The ceremony took place in Cai Be district's An Huu commune, notable for its mango cultivation.

A ton of mangoes was exported through VINA T&T Import – Export Trading Service Co., Ltd and Thanh Binh Agricultural Products Import – Export Trading Co., Ltd.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, Pham Van Trong, highlighted this event as a step forward in trade promotion, enhancing the value of Vietnamese agricultural products globally. He noted the shipment followed extensive negotiations with US authorities, opening new pathways for local produce.

Trong urged departments to plan for expanding mango cultivation suited to local soil, investing in infrastructure. Cai Be district must guide farmers and enterprises on traceability and standards like VietGAP and GlobalGAP for export quality, managing production codes and packing facilities.

Tien Giang's export turnover in 2024 was approximately 6.5 billion USD, with agricultural products making up 11.08%. The target for 2025 is 7 billion USD, a 7.41% increase. Measures to improve the competitive edge of exports are planned.

Early 2025 indicators show nearly 4,000 tons of fruits and vegetables exported, generating 8.5 million USD, up 24% in volume and 56% in value compared to the previous year. Tien Giang's products are in markets like China, the EU, Japan, Korea, and the US.

Tien Giang has over 88,000 hectares of fruit trees, with mangoes covering over 2,000 hectares, producing 50,000 tons annually. Cai Be district is recognized for its mango production, including Cat Hoa Loc and Cat Chu varieties.
