Without any negative impact from the cold, the production of the Victory variety in Greece is progressing smoothly. According to Mr. Iordanis Moisidis, president of the Ilida Agricultural Cooperative: "The yield for Victory from the beginning of the harvest until March 26 amounts to 16.000 kilograms per hectare. Last week, despite a few cold days, the production of Victory strawberries was not affected thanks to the abundant sunshine."
The production of Victory is now approaching its peak. Specifically, Mr. Moisidis states: "These days, the production of Victory reaches 2.000 to 3.500 kilograms per hectare and is harvested every five days. We estimate that production will reach its peak around April 10 to 15."
The president of the Greek agricultural cooperative estimates that this year's Victory season will likely extend beyond last year's: "In the previous growing season, the harvest was completed on June 10. We expect the current growing season to conclude around June 20 to 25. However, this also depends on how production develops in other European countries."
Finally, Mr. Moisidis states that Victory's productive performance in high temperatures surpasses that of other varieties: "Bare-root Victory plants behave like all strawberry varieties in winter conditions. They have a huge advantage when the weather is very hot, as they continue to produce high-quality fruit while other varieties struggle to cope. This is precisely why the Ilida Agricultural Cooperative has chosen the Victory variety, which it cultivates at a rate of 99%."
