The Egyptian garlic season started in January with higher volumes than last year. This sector in Egypt continues to enjoy a prosperous business, thanks to consistent quality, high demand, and calm competition, according to Ralph Nakhal, CEO of Tomna for Agricultural Investment.
The grower says, "We started supplying fresh green garlic in January. We are currently at the harvesting and curing stage for our dry and semi-dry garlic season. Quality is really good this season, even better than last one, thanks to a very good winter, with plenty of big sizes."
"Demand is continuously high in several markets, including Brazil, the European Union, Taiwan, and North America. We've kept our prices the same as last season or slightly higher. Even with a slight increase, our prices remain below those of the competition," Nakhal continues.
The current dry garlic season is off to a late start this year, as Nakhal explains, "Usually, the dry and semi-dry garlic campaign starts in the first week of March. This season, however, garlic didn't start forming cloves until last week due to a longer winter."
The company, which also has garlic-growing operations in Chile, will be present at Fruit Attraction Sao Paolo. "We welcome visitors at booth G116 from March 25 to 27," Nakhal concludes.
