Ukrainian blueberry sector grows despite wartime challenges

The Ukrainian berry sector continues to grow despite the ongoing challenges posed by the war. A key development in the sector is the formation of the Ukrainian Blueberry Growers Association, which now includes 16 major producers cultivating a combined total of 850 hectares of blueberries. The association serves as a platform for professional dialogue and aims to strengthen both domestic and international market access for Ukrainian blueberries.

The association's core objectives include building stable supply chains for retail and export markets, improving production standards, and adapting the sector to new circumstances. It also seeks to identify opportunities for Ukrainian blueberries in global markets.

Industry representatives have emphasized the importance of maintaining and developing international trade relations, even under current conditions. The association argues that continued communication and outreach are necessary to support the sector's development and maintain market presence. Producers report that despite the disruptions, Ukrainian blueberries continue to meet high-quality standards, with demand from foreign buyers remaining stable.

The association also focuses on implementing modern cultivation practices and aligning production with international certification standards. It aims to expand access to retail networks, provide market intelligence, and offer technical support to producers. Education and training initiatives are also part of the association's efforts to raise expertise within the sector. Environmental sustainability and responsible farming practices are identified as additional areas of focus.

Ukrainian producers recently participated in Fruit Logistica 2025 in Berlin, one of the leading trade events for the global fresh produce industry. Their presence attracted interest from international buyers and partners, further positioning Ukraine as a participant in the global blueberry trade.

The association includes producers from various regions, including companies such as Artberry LLC, Blue Berry LLC, Family Garden LLC, Orniberry LLC, Berry Hills Farm, Tarasiv Obriy Farm, Green Farm, Grass Avenue Farm, Laski Farm, VIAN 2021 LLC, Agro Frutica Byshkiv LLC, Organic Garden LLC, Vitamin UA LLC, Zakhar-Sad Farm, Agromix Zakarpattia, and Nikdaria LLC.

The Ukrainian Blueberry Growers Association is open to additional producers interested in developing export capabilities, improving production standards, and contributing to the broader development of the country's blueberry sector.
