The export volumes of avocados from Morocco are on an upward trajectory, as EastFruit reports. In the 2023/24 season, Morocco achieved a new record with 56.7 thousand tons of avocados exported, valued at $179 million. This marks a 25% increase from the previous season.
Current trends suggest this record may be surpassed. By mid-season, Morocco had exported nearly 42 thousand tons, representing 73% of the last season's total. Historically, January and February see peak export volumes.
Spain, France, and the Netherlands remain the primary markets, taking over 80% of exports. The UK and Italy are also seeing increased shipments. Morocco is actively diversifying its export destinations this season.
In the first half of the season, exports to Switzerland exceeded the previous season's total by 1.5 times, to Belgium by 6 times, and to Portugal by 11 times. Exports to Canada and Turkey have resumed after a two-season pause. Additionally, shipments have reached Poland, Ukraine, Greece, Malaysia, and Oman. From July to December 2024, Moroccan avocados reached 25 countries, up from 19 in the previous season.
In April, a trade mission involving Moroccan exporters of fresh produce, including avocados, will occur in Singapore and Malaysia.
