Carrot pricing steady with some pressure from other growing regions

The supply of both conventional and organic carrots is looking steady out of California. "All sampling is showing good yields on carrots in the coming months," says Rob Giragosian with Kern Ridge Growers, LLC. which supplies whole conventional carrots, whole organic carrots, and cut and peeled conventional and organic carrots. "The supply has been more constant than last year at this time which is mostly due to better weather."

The company finished up its production last month in Bakersfield and is transitioning to its production in California's Imperial Valley. "We are pretty much on time and we anticipate that to continue for the coming months," says Giragosian. Production will stay in the Imperial Valley until late May, after which the company will transition back to Bakersfield for its winter carrot supply.

Constant supply expected ahead
As for the demand for carrots? "The demand is good and normal for this part of the year. We see supply and demand for carrots to stay mostly constant in the coming weeks," he adds.

All of this is leaving pricing steady for carrots, though there have been some downturns due to pressures from other regions.
