Hortyfruta activates the Quality Standard Extension for aubergine

Hortyfruta, Andalusia's Fruit and Vegetable Inter-branch organization, has decided to activate the Quality Standard Extension for long black aubergines in conventional agriculture for fresh consumption.

Long aubergine is at the second part of the season's peak production level, which is usually reached between weeks 13 and 16, although with certain ups and downs. The variable weather in recent weeks has affected the quality of aubergines. According to Hortyfruta, around 15% of the total production of black aubergines is usually traded in the last week of March and the first three weeks of April.

Hortyfruta's Crisis Committee agreed to apply the provisions of the Order of July 20, 2022, on the Extension of the Quality Standards, which is compulsory for all producing and marketing operators in Andalusia. From Wednesday, March 26 at 00:00, Class II long black aubergines may no longer be marketed; only Class I and premium quality aubergines are permitted for fresh consumption.

Hortyfruta and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalusía will monitor and control compliance with the standard.
